Nina Funnell is a Sydney based journalist, author and speaker.  Her writing has been published in academic journals, newspapers, magazines and on online news sites. She has authored multiple book chapters and is the co-author of Loveability: An Empowered Girls Guide to Dating and Relationships (Harper Collins, 2014).

Nina’s main areas of interest include gender equality, technology, education and youth. Topics include: sexting and cyberbullying, respectful relationships, sex education, media and gender, violence prevention, body image and feminism.

Nina has taught and guest lectured in the Media and Communications Department at the University of Sydney. She is a regularly sought for media comment and has appeared on The ProjectSunriseThe Morning ShowInsightToday TonightA Current Affair, as well as all major Australian nightly news programs. She has been featured in CosmopolitanCleoGirlfriend and Madison magazines. Nina also pops up on radio including Triple J’s Hack, and she has a semi-regular guest spot on Radio National, Life Matters program with Natasha Mitchell.

In 2010 Nina was awarded the Australian Human Rights Community (Individual) award for her work in violence prevention, and was named a finalist for Young Australian of the Year. She has also been awarded the Edna Ryan Media award.

Nina currently sits on a range of boards and management committees and she advises for various Government organisations and community groups.
